Beyond the Pixel?

Beyond the Pixel is the UX studio of Nathan J. Powell.

Although he’s been designing since 2005, it wasn’t until he launched his own SaaS in 2013 that he became passionate about UX. Realizing that SaaS is how software works, not necessarily how it looks, was a hard-earned and valuable lesson. But it was a lesson that sparked Beyond the Pixel’s journey into what Nathan coined ‘Sensible UX.’

Working with successful ugly duckling businesses has taught Nathan the value of Market, Problem, Solution, and, right at the end of the queue, design. UX, then UI, in that order. If your SaaS doesn’t do the best job it can, no amount of UI makeup will save it.

The studio’s philosophy

Sadly, UX is often overshadowed by its more attractive step-sister, UI. Here at Beyond the Pixel, we believe UX is the cornerstone of any successful SaaS. We’d go as far as to say that visual design is the final piece of the puzzle, the icing on the cake.

We understand that the first few minutes of a customer’s journey are crucial. Getting them right can be the difference between having a leaky bucket (high churn rates) and a growing SaaS (increasing revenue).

Value through sensible UX

What is Sensible UX? Sensible UX is designing with data. It’s working from established practical theories. It’s internal and real-world testing. It’s based on what works and what doesn’t, not on whimsy. Remember, this is UX, not UI 😉

We don’t ever tell you to try something “just because.” We won’t ever make changes simply because they look good. Design choices should be sensible and functional. We’ll leave the trendy stuff up to the B2C designers.

Look at our case studies to see how we’ve helped some of our past clients.

Your dedicated UX studio without the studio salary.

The average salary for a product designer in the United States is between $75,000 and $119,000. Not everyone can commit to such numbers.

Beyond the Pixel makes UX accessible to growing SaaS businesses without the commitment or cost of a full-time employee.
